We’re finishing up our last day here in DC at NEA headquarters. It’s been another wonderful experiencing collaborating with teachers from across the country in our role as Smarter Balanced Teacher Ambassadors. Hats off to the crew from Smarter Balanced, National Education Association, and WestEd for a fabulous learning experience!
I’m so excited to be here in our Nation’s capitol for the next few days with so many amazing teachers from around the country. The Smarter Balanced Teacher Ambassadors are convening at NEA headquarters to learn, collaborate, contribute, and grow. Awesome! Looking forward to tomorrow when we get to see old friends and meet new ones, and hear the latest from Joe Willhoft, SBAC Executive Director, and more leaders from.. Read More
Our CTA Teacher Leadership Cohort (TLC) is wrapping up today! It’s been a wonderful year learning and growing with 23 other educators from across California and of course, with the amazing professional development staff at CTA. As part of my reflection process I created a Prezi to share a bit about my project and what the future holds. Enjoy!
I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me! Okay, joking aside, today was a wonderful day! You know those days that truly energize you and reconnect you with why you joined the profession? Well, today was one of those days and I’m so grateful. I was fortunate enough to be selected as a Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Teacher Ambassador and I couldn’t be more pleased!.. Read More
I’m thrilled to be here in San Francisco at the WestEd office working with the SBAC staff as a Teacher Ambassador! There are so many amazing educators here as well as the movers and shakers of the SBAC/Common Core movement. I’m learning so much about the assessment system that I’m ready to burst! And it’s only lunch time! More to come…
Take a look at my friend’s recently published book for all grade levels: Building an Empathy-Based Classroom: A Teacher’s Survival Guide. I’m excited to read it because I know the author, Ken Klieman, to be an outstanding teacher who truly practices what he preaches. I’m looking forward most to reading the sections on working with colleagues and holding meetings. There’s always room for improvement there!
I’m here today in San Jose surrounded by many talented colleagues at one of CTA’s Good Teaching Conferences. They hold them every year, one in the northern part of the state and one in the southern. Although, if you’re from the true north state like me you can hardly call San Jose northern California! I was lucky enough to see some great sessions today but I’m most jazzed about two.. Read More
I am beyond excited to share what I’ve been up to lately with my Teachers Pay Teachers store. I’ve been working hard on a new product that is truly unique! I’ve created a model for close reading that is designed for primary students, grades K, 1st, and 2nd. Children this young can and should be taught the fundamentals of close reading so they can be successful in later grades. And.. Read More
I hope everyone had a safe New Year’s Eve and is looking forward to 2014 as much as I am. 2013 brought so many unexpected blessings and opportunities, I hope the new year is equally giving! I spent the evening registering for CTA’s Good Teaching Conference North in San Jose. Our Teacher Leadership Cohort will be presenting some of our work. I’m excited to see my TLC colleagues again and.. Read More
I’ve spent the last couple of days completing my follow-up survey for my CTA professional development project. My workshop participants gave me such valuable feedback immediately following my presentation. Now I’m asking them for more, this time to learn how the sample lessons I provided have worked for them and their students. I sent out the survey online this afternoon and already received several responses. Hooray! As a thank you.. Read More
